The Mission
HealthCare Access is a network of physician volunteers, partner organizations and funders who provide healthcare to low-income, medically uninsured persons living in a defined geographic area. HealthCare Access coordinates care; it does not provide direct care.
The Challenge
Access to affordable medical care is a challenge for many uninsured residents in Forsyth and surrounding counties. The current economic environment is creating a new uninsured population of persons who have lost their jobs, lost their insurance and have few options for employment. If COBRA is offered it is not affordable to unemployed persons.
Healthcare Access was created in a time of economic security. The unemployment rates were low and jobs were available. The founders who helped create HealthCare Access provided a stronger safety net for the challenging economic times of 2008 and 2009.
